Is God a Personal God?

--by Daysounds

It takes much more faith to believe that a simple protein molecule like cytochrome c, with a sequence of 100 aminoacids (1 out of 200000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 possible different combinations of the 20 aminoacids that make a protein, plus the necessary specific environment and temperature) was formed by chance than to believe it was made by an intelligent source. It takes much more faith to believe that an embryo's cells which contain and give the information on how and when to start forming a limb "develop" that information by chance than to believe that an intelligent source purposely made those cells placing that information in them. It takes much more faith to believe that the order and the laws that govern the universe were produced by chance than to believe in a designer.

However, there is something that has divided theists through the years which needs consideration because it can and does affect our daily life styles: Is that designer a cold, distant scientist who doesn't care about individual human-beings? Does he care about us as we would care about a computer we built (experimenting with it to see what it can do, how it reacts to certain inputs and conditions--because his knowledge, even though very advanced, is limited)?, or is He an ominiscient, all-powerful, personal God who loves us?

If God loves personally the human beings He designed and made, as the Bible claims, does He listen to, talk with, guide, perform miracles for them today?

Daysounds encourages its audience and readers to send their different thoughts on the matter, providing evidence to support them.

Responses:

"God is a personal God. Years ago, I was walking alongside a river shoreline. After stopping at a certain place with soft, thin mud, I got a stick about one foot long; and, thinking about the hunters who I saw around the area a few days before, I wrote for them to read, 'Christ Loves You.'
"After looking at the message shortly, I said to myself, 'Christ loves them, but I don't know anymore if He loves me," and I threw the stick to the middle of the river.
"Thoughts about the painful situation I was going through came back to my mind. Why did God allow it?
"Then, I looked down at the river again. I saw the stick still floating in the middle. Usually, a small, quiet river, during those days it was overflowing, threatening to flood nearby buildings, as it had done in the past during heavy rains. Big tree branches were rapidly passing the still, little stick.
"My attention was drawn by the impossibility. I tried to see what was holding the stick, but the waters were muddy, and couldn't see clearly. All of a sudden, the stick started moving on a perpendicular line to shore, to the shore I was standing on.
"When it got two or three feet from me, it stopped, turned, and pointed to the message I had written. I was reflecting on how in the world was the stick being able to remain still in such rapidly moving water, when my mind registered what my eyes had seen and were witnessing: the stick had turned and was motionlessly pointing to the message: 'Christ Loves You.'
"As I was saying to myself, 'What a coincidence!', the stick started turning, and slowly, little by little, , it pointed at me. And there it remained again, motionless.
"For a while, I was dumbfounded. I looked at other places and looked back at the stick to make sure I was seeing right. And sure enough, it was not my imagination, it was happening.
"I humbly, asked God to forgive me for doubting His love for me; and thanking Him with all my heart, I praised Him because being the Creator of the galaxies, He was taking the time to tell me that He loved me.
"That's how I know without any doubt that God is a personal God."
